Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team defeated the No. 15 Akron Zips 4,661-4,640 in the Huskers’ final home match of the season. The match served as Senior Day for Dacotah Faught, who led both teams in air rifle with a mark of 593.
The Huskers took an early lead as they combined for a team smallbore score of 2,308. Emily Cheramie’s score of 584 paced the Huskers and marked her second-highest smallbore score of the season. Samantha Peterson was close behind with 581. Nina Radulovic (575), Kayla Gadeken (568) and Hannah Virga (564) rounded out the squadded Huskers.
Nebraska and Akron shot identical team scores in air rifle, with both teams firing 2,353. Dacotah Faught was out front with 595. Nina Radulovic set a new season high with a mark of 590. Samantha Peterson added a solid score of 587. Hannah Virga and Emily Cheramie added consistency with scores of 581 and 580, respectively. Although not squadded, Kayla Gadeken notched a 587.
The Zips produced a team score of 2,287 in smallbore, led by scores of 574 each from Anthony Jackson and Caleb Lloyd. Akron put all hands on deck in air rifle, however. Lauryn Cinadr and Rebecca Green, both non-squadded in smallbore, each produced a score of 589 to pace the Zips. The team air rifle score of 2,353 was not enough to overcome NU’s lead.
Nebraska will have a weekend off, then return to match action on Feb. 17 at the NCAA Qualifiers in Murray, Ky. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
