Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska rifle team notched its first win of the 2017-18 season against Army West Point. The final score was 4,631-4,630.
The Huskers put up a score of 2,298 in smallbore to put them ahead of Army West Point (2,293). Dacotah Faught and Nina Radulovic paced NU, each firing a 578. Emily Cheramie notched a 574, Kayla Gadeken added a 568, and Samantha Peterson fired a 567. Hannah Virga (576), Rachel Yager (572), Maddie Korthas (571) and Elizabeth Ewert (559) assisted in Nebraska’s effort. Mari Butler and Sarah Sutton rounded out the Huskers with scores of 541 and 549 respectively.
NU struggled in air rifle, falling 2,333-2,337, but managed to hang on to the overall lead. Samantha Peterson led the Huskers with a score of 588, followed closely by Dactoh Faught (587). Nina Radulovic and Kayla Gadeken both fired 579. Maddie Korthas added a 578, Mari Butler notched a 580, and Emily Cheramie posted a 582. Hannah Virga (587), Rachel Yager (584), Sarah Sutton (570) and Elizabeth Ewert (572) completed the Huskers’ air rifle effort.
Payne Nunn led Army West Point in air smallbore with a score of 581. He was assisted by Clayton Hanson (579) and Nathan Brewer (569). Kaitlyn Kutz paced the team in air rifle with a 589. Nunn added a 588 and Hanson brought in a 583.
The Nebraska rifle team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to compete against No. 1 TCU and No. 18 Memphis on Oct. 28. The Huskers will face Memphis again the next day on Oct. 29. Action is set to begin at 8 a.m. on both days.
