Huskers In Title Contention at Prairie View Invite

Arlington, Texas - The third-ranked Nebraska bowling team went 4-1 in five traditional matches on Saturday, and sits in second place with a pinfall of 9,930 after two days of competition at the Prairie View Invitational at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.

Top-ranked Arkansas State is in first place with a pinfall of 9,953, while fourth-ranked McKendree is third with a pinfall of 9,879.

The Huskers began the day with a pair of wins against top-five teams, first against No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, 951-879, and then against Arkansas State, 982-955.

NU suffered its only setback of the day, a 1,042-952 loss against McKendree, but rebounded with wins in its final two matches.

Nebraska closed the day with a 961-932 win over Jackson State and a 1,043-1,000 victory over No. 6 Vanderbilt.

Gazmine Mason led the Huskers with an average of 207.2, good for seventh overall in the individual standings. Julia Bond is 12th with an average of 202.8, while Kelly Belzeski is 17th with an average of 199.8.

The Huskers will return to action Sunday morning with a traditional team match against No. 10 Maryland-Eastern Shore set to begin at 8:25 a.m. Following that match, teams will be seeded into a bracket-play championship tournament, in which each team will play two rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches to determine a champion.
