Lincoln, Neb. --- The No. 7 completed a weekend sweep over No. 18 UTEP after defeating the Miners 4,668 - 4,588 on Sunday in the final match of the fall season. The Huskers also defeated the Miners 4,664 - 4,578 on Nov. 12.
In smallbore, the Huskers fired the three highest scores across all competitors. Senior All-American Rachel Martin paved the way with 584. All-American Dacotah Faught and Nina Radulovic each fired 576. All-American Jaycee Carter earned 571, while Samantha Peterson finished with 568. NU led UTEP 2,307-2,255 after the first discipline. Maddie Korthas, competeing individually, earned a career-high score of 566.
The Huskers had an impressive showing in air rifle, with three shooters firing at least 590. Carter (592), Peterson (590) and Radulovic (590) help the team get a comfortable lead over UTEP. Faught notched 589, while Martin tallied 587. As a team, Nebraska earned 2,361. Sarah Sutton (585) and Kayla Gadeken (591), competing individually, tied their career-high air rifle scores against the Miners.
Rachael Schoenrock led the Miners in smallbore with 572. Bailey Powell recorded 597 in air rifle. UTEP's total team air rifle score was 2,333.
As a team, Nebraska will take a two-month break before resuming competition again on Jan. 15. against Army West Point. In the meantime, select individuals will compete at the Winter Airgun Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Dec. 2-4.
