Lincoln, Neb. --- Maddie Korthas, Sarah Sutton, Samantha Peterson, Rachel Yager, Hannah Virga and Jordan Miller all earned career highs today in the first home match of the season. The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team beat seventh-ranked Ohio State on Saturday at the NU Rifle Range. Both teams finished with 4,662, but the tie-breaker was determined by Xs. NU finished with 272, while OSU had 270.
In smallbore, freshman Maddie Korthas brought in a 557 and sophomore Rachel Yager brought in a 575, both new individual career highs. Jordan Miller and Hannah Virga also posted a career-bests, scoring 570 and 572, respectively. The team was led by senior Rachel Martin and freshman Samantha Peterson. Martin and Peterson both fired a 580. The two received assistance from Nina Radulovic and Dacotah Faught, who tallied 573 and 566, respectively. Jaycee Carter finished with 566. As a team, the Huskers notched a 2,302 in smallbore.
Nebraska totaled 2,360 in air rifle, with three Huskers firing career highs. Maddie Korthas tallied a 575 for her second career high of the day, and Sarah Sutton earned a 582. Junior Dacotah Faught paved the way scoring 594. Freshman Samantha Peterson addded 593 to the effort with a career high of her own. Senior Rachel Martin earned 589, while Jaycee Carter marked 584. Nina Radulovic finished with 579.
Drew Cheezum was the Buckeyes' top scorer in smallbore. Cheezum finished with 586. In air rifle, Michael Steinel posted 594. As a team, Ohio State ended the day with 2,310 in smallbore and 2,352 in air rifle.
NU has a double header next weekend in Lexington, Ky, facing off against Akron on Nov. 5 and Kentucky on Nov. 6. Both matches are set to begin at 8 a.m.
