Oxford, Miss. --- The No. 9 Nebraska rifle team opened the 2016-17 season with a 4,659-4,654 victory over the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.
In smallbore, freshman Samantha Peterson led the team in her collegiate debut firing 584. UT Martin transfer Dacotah Faught added a 576, while seniors Jaycee Carter and Rachel Martin tallied 574 and 573, respectively. Nina Radulovic finished with a 559. As a team, the Huskers ended with a total of 2,307.
Faught paved the way for Nebraska in air rifle with 592. Martin earned a 589 and Peterson posted a 587. Radulovic finished the day with 584, while Carter scored 583. The team scored a 2,352 in air rifle.
The Huskers have a bye week before welcoming Ohio State to the NU Rifle Range on Oct. 29. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. A free breakfast catered from Hy-Vee will be available to all fans in attendance outside the NU Rifle Range in the basement of the Military and Naval Science Building.
