Lincoln, Neb.- The 2015 NCAA National Champion Nebraska women's bowling team announced that Meghan Straub, daughter of NU Head Coach Bill Straub, has signed with the Huskers on Wednesday.
Straub, a current Lincoln Pius X student, will bring a plethora of talent to the Huskers in 2015-16, as she has worked on her game her entire life with both her dad, and mother Kim, who also played for the Huskers and was a four-time academic and athletic All-American (1989-1992). Additionally, she was named the 1992 Collegiate Bowler of the Year.
According to Coach Straub, Meghan will be one of the most qualified female bowlers entering her collegiate career since her mother did, in 1988. Despite the high praise, Straub said if everything goes right, the four-time NSAA First Team All-State selectee will redshirt during her freshman season.
“After this season, we lose only two seniors in Liz Kuhlkin and Andrea Ruiz, so with the majority of the ladies coming back, the team has a real good shot at being really good again,” Straub said. “If things go well, I would like to redshirt her.”
Straub added that even if Meghan does redshirt during her freshman campaign, he would have not brought her on the team if he did not think she could succeed.
A standout in volleyball, Meghan had originally planned to pursue a collegiate volleyball career, before an injury sidelined her during her senior season with the Thunderbolts.
