Game Notes
Nebraska was shut out for just the second time this season...the Huskers struck out once against North Dakota State ace Krista Menke, the nation's strikeout leader...MJ Knighten extended her hitting streak to 14 games with three hits...Alicia Armstrong drew a walk to reach base safely in her 16th consecutive game.

Lincoln - The Nebraska softball team was shut out for just the second time this season in a 3-0 loss to North Dakota State in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Bowlin Stadium.

The Huskers were held to a season-low three hits, with all three hits coming off the bat of sophomore MJ Knighten, who extended her hitting streak to 14 games. Nebraska did not get a runner to second base until the sixth inning, and the Huskers never had a runner reach third base.

The lack of offense spoiled a solid outing from junior right-hander Emily Lockman (10-9). Lockman allowed only two run in a complete-game effort.

With the loss, Nebraska fell to 18-15 on the season. North Dakota State improved to 26-6 on the year, behind the seventh shutout of the season from Krista Menke (19-2).

North Dakota State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A leadoff single, a sacrifice and an RBI single plated the game's first run three batters into the game.

Neither team threatened again until the top of the fourth, when the Bison had back-to-back singles to begin the frame. The Huskers then got a force out at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt before the next two hitters were retired.

The Bison then grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Cheyenne Garcia began the game with a solo home run before the next two batters reached on errors. Maritza Lopez-Portillo then hit a deep fly ball down the left field line. Husker left fielder Kat Woolman made a running catch in foul territory before crashing into the fence. Woolman was unable to get up following the collision, allowing Alyssa Reina to tag up and score from second base.

In the bottom of the frame, junior Kiki Stokes was hit by a one-out pitch. Knighten then hit a fly ball to deep left field that just got over the left fielder's head and off the fence. Stokes rounded second base aggressively and when she put on the brakes to head back to second, Knighten was already to the bag. In the ensuing rundown, Stokes was tagged out at third. Junior Alicia Armstrong then walked - which would have loaded the bases with only one out - before a foul out ended the inning.

After Lockman escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh, the Huskers were retired on just six pitches in the bottom of the seventh.

Nebraska will look for a split in game two of the doubleheader.
