Ames, Iowa- The Huskers took the track for the second day of action at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday in Ames, Iowa. Nebraska was led by sophomore Oladapo Akinmoladun on the day as he won the men’s 60-meter hurdles.
Akinmoladun posted a time of 7.95 to win the event. He has finished first or second in the 60-meter hurdles in every race this season. Also in the event, Sean Pille came in fourth with a time of 8.11, while Tibor Koroknai was fifth with a time of 8.15. On the women’s side, Melissa-Maree Farrington finished fifth with a time of 8.59.
Veronica Grizzle continued to lead the Husker throwers on the weekend as she tallied a second-place finish in the women’s shot put. She notched a season-best throw of 50-0 ¾ (15.26) that cements her spot at sixth in the conference. Carlie Pinkelman came in eighth with a throw of 47-7 ¼ (14.51).
Davon Clark took to the runway in the men’s triple jump and posted a leap of 46-4 ¾ (14.14) for fifth. Anna Weigandt finished sixth in the women’s triple jump. She tallied a leap of 39-1 ¾ (11.93). In the pole vault, Melanie Blum finished with a personal-best mark of 11-7 (3.53).
Ellen Dougherty recorded a personal-best time in the 800 meters as she crossed the finish line in 2:10.29. That time puts her at 15th in the Big Ten Conference. Jodi-Rae Blackwood finished with a time of 49.14 in the men’s 400 meters.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Morgan Woitzel, Ellie Grooters, Ellen Dougherty and Mila Andric came in sixth overall with a time of 3:44.08 to close out the weekend of competition at Iowa State.
