White Defeats Red in Intrasquad Scrimmage

Lincoln – The White team defeated the Red team, 18-14, in a high-scoring, situational scrimmage for the Nebraska softball team on Sunday at the Doris Bair Complex.

The scrimmage featured the following situations to begin each inning: a runner placed on first base in the first and fifth innings; a runner placed on second base in the second and sixth innings; a runner placed on third base in the third and seventh innings; and runners placed on first and second in the fourth inning. Tatum Edwards pitched exclusively for the Red team, while Emily Lockman pitched exclusively for the White squad. Danica Bishop pitched for both teams. In addition to free substitutions, the scrimmage was set up to put hitters and pitchers in simulated situations.

With at least one runner on base to start every inning, it was no surprise that both the Red and White teams scored in each half inning. Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, the Red out-hit the White, 13-12. Five of the six Red hitters produced multi-hit games, led by Lincoln native Kat Woolman, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Taylor Edwards and Kylee Muir also drove in three runs, while Sammi Noland added two RBIs.

For the White team, all six hitters at at least one hit and one RBI. Hailey Decker was a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and four runs scored. Austen Urness was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, while Mattie Fowler added a two-run homer and Lotte Sjulin scored a game-high five runs.

In the circle, Tatum Edwards allowed three earned runs on four hits in 4.0 innings for the Red squad. Lockman surrendered five earned runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings for the White squad. Bishop combined to allow 10 earned runs in 4.0 innings in the offensive-minded scrimmage.

Nebraska opens up its eight-game fall exhibition schedule next weekend by hosting the Big Red Fall Classic at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers welcome Colorado State and UNO for the tournament, which features free admission and includes three games on both days, with action beginning at Noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
