Lincoln, Neb.- The No. 60 Nebraska men's tennis team (10-11) had a painful 5-2 loss to No. 24 Michigan (12-7) on Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. This puts their conference record at 2-6.

The Huskers started off slow with losses at No. 1 and 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles Brandon Videtich and Scott Elsass won a close match against Michigan's Shaun Bernstein and Justin Rossi 8-7.

The Huskers fought hard in singles, capturing 2 wins of the 4 needed to clinch the match. The first victory came at No. 2 singles where Dusty Boyer had an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win over Alex Petrone. Next Andre Stenger fell at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2 to Evan King. Then Sebastian Florczyk fell 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to Alex Buzzi.

The next win belonged to Marc Herrmann at No. 4 singles, a strong 6-2, 6-1 victory over Michael Zhu. At this point the Huskers needed to win the remaining two matches in order to beat Michigan.

Playing at No. 3 singles for the first time this year, Tom Blackwell split sets with Vlad Stefan after losing the second set 6-4. Shortly after Andrew Dzulynsky split sets at No. 6 singles. Tom lead most of the third set before falling behind 4-5. Vlad Stefan won the final game to clinch the match for Michigan, giving them their fourth point. Dzulynsky lost in a tiebreaker in the third set for a final score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3).

“It was a tough loss”, said Coach Kerry McDermott. “ We won some small battles, but in the end came up short getting the win. We have to move on and get ready for Michigan State on Sunday.”
