Oxford, Miss. - The Nebraska rifle team fired a 4,647 to finish third overall at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) championships this weekend. NU's performance included a season-high 2,312 in smallbore and a 2,335 aggregate score in air rifle. The Huskers finished behind match champion West Virginia (first, 4,705) and regular-season champion Kentucky (second, 4,690) to earn their second third-place finish in two years at the GARC Championship.
After earning a 2,312 in smallbore for third overall in the first day of competition, NU took to the air rifle range with a comfortable lead over fourth-place Army (2,297). The Huskers finished with a 2,335 in their second team event of the competition, securing their third-place position in the championship match. The Huskers' top performance on the day came from junior ReAnn Wilson, who fired a career-high 589 to lead Nebraska in the discipline.
The Huskers will take momentum from their third-place finish as they look forward to their final match of the year, the NCAA Championships. The championships will take place on March 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio and will be hosted by Ohio State University.
