Goodyear, Ariz. - Senior Scott Willman tied for sixth at the Denver Desert Shootout on Saturday, leading the Nebraska men's golf team to a tie-for-11th finish.
The Huskers shot 289 in the final round for a season-low 54-hole total of 871. Nebraska posted 288 in Thursday's first round and 294 in Friday's second round. Wichita State took home the team championship, shooting 836 over three rounds to edge out Brigham Young by two strokes.
Willman paced his way to a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday en route to a three-round total of 209, which is his season best. The senior recorded his 12th subpar round of the 2011-12 campaign, breaking 72 in five consecutive rounds. The tie-for-sixth result marks his second straight top-10 finish as well as his seventh top-20 finish of the season in eight stroke play appearances.
Jordan Reinertson turned in the best Husker score of the day with his 2-under-par 70 in the final round. The score marks the junior's season low in 12 rounds as he went on to tie for 48th. Reinertson carded 76 in the first round and 74 in the second round for his 220 total.
Manuel Lavin tied for 67th after shooting 1-over-par 73 over the final 18 holes. The sophomore, who has competed in every tournament for the Huskers this season, had a 76 on Thursday and a 74 on Friday. Lavin compiled 223 strokes for the tournament.
Ross Dickson and Neil Dufford tied for 72nd at 224. The pair matched 75s in Saturday's final round, adding to Nebraska's total. Dickson opened play on Thursday with a 74 before adding a 75 on Friday. Meanwhile, Dufford started with a 1-under-par 71 in the first round before a 78 on Friday.
Ryan Grassel, playing as an individual, shot 84 on Saturday and tied for 89th. The sophomore carded 75s in each of the first two rounds for his 234 total.
Wichita State's Rafael Becker outlasted San Diego's Alex Ching by one stroke to win individual medalist honors. Becker fired a 6-under-par 66 in the final round en route to his 54-hole total of 202.
The Huskers return to action April 9-10 when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to play in the Mizzou Intercollegiate.
