Willman?s Low Round Guides Huskers in California

Palm Desert, Calif. - Scott Willman fired a final-round 69 on Sunday to lead the Nebraska men's golf team at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The Huskers, as a team, compiled 910 strokes over three rounds and finished 21st.

Nebraska played two rounds on Sunday, posting 307 in the second round before a final-round 298. On Saturday the Huskers shot 305. UNLV won the team competition by seven strokes over Texas Tech, posting 844 at The Classic Club.

Willman's 3-under-par 69 in the final round was joined by his second-round 76, contributing to his three-round total of 217. The senior paced his way to an even-par 72 in the first round and tied for 27th for the tournament.

Manuel Lavin turned in the second-best Husker performance, tying for 65th. Lavin carded rounds of 75 and 77 on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 224. Like Willman, Lavin shot 72 in Saturday's opening round.

Jordan Reinertson tied for 102nd with his 233 total at The Classic Club. Reinertson fired a pair of 76s on Sunday to go along with his first-day 81. Neil Dufford finished eight strokes behind Reinertson at 241 and finished 117th. Dufford matched his 76 in the final round, which went along with his second-round 82 and first-round 83.

Ryan Grassel, playing in his first stroke play event for the Huskers, tied for 118th at 243. Grassel scored an 80 in each of the first two rounds before an 83 in the final 18 holes.

UNLV's Kevin Penner took home medalist honors, shooting 209. He edged out teammate Derek Ernst, Baylor's Joakim Mikkelsen and Kent State's Corey Conners by one stroke.

The Huskers return to action March 12-13 at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.
