WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Nebraska men’s tennis team edged out William & Mary on Sunday morning winning, 4-3. The win improves the No. 46 Huskers to 6-3 on the year. William & Mary falls to 7-9 on the season.
Nebraska started the match out by winning the doubles point and taking an early 1-0 lead.
The Huskers’ No. 5 team of Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim were victorious on court No. 1 when they downed William & Mary’s duo of Anton Andersson and Will Juggins, 8-3. Nebraska’s No. 22 doubles team of Andre Stenger and Robert Schulze clinched the doubles point for NU when they downed W&M’s squad of John Banks and Ilja Orre, 9-8 (5).
In singles play, the Huskers got things started the right way when they were victorious on courts No. 1 and 2.
On court No. 1, NU’s No. 60 Aumueller downed W&M’s Andersson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. NU’s No. 54 Lindheim was victorious on court No. 2 when he defeated the Tribe’s Adrian Vodislay in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Nebraska was unable to pick up any points in the middle of its lineup.
On court No. 3, W&M’s Ben Guthrie defeated NU’s Andre Stenger, 6-1, 6-3. The Tribe’s Ben Hoogland was victorious on court No. 4 when he downed NU’s Schuzle, 6-4, 6-2.
Nebraska picked up its fourth and match-clinching point on court No. 5 when Stefan Gollner downed William & Mary’s Banks, 6-3, 3-6. 6-3. The Tribe picked up their third point on court No. 6 when Robert Pietrucha downed NU’s Eric Sock, 6-2, 7-5.
The Huskers will be back in action Monday morning when they travel to Richmond, Va., to take on No. 38 VCU. Monday’s match against the Rams is set to begin at 9 a.m.
