ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 39 Nebraska men's tennis team got its first victory of the year on Monday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend as they dominated the No. 51 TCU Horned Frogs, 4-0.
"We played a complete match today against a good TCU team," Nebraska head coach Kerry McDermott said. "I thought our guys did a god job of playing start to finish and they handled the pressure well. I'm happy to win 4-0."
The Huskers started out the match by winning the doubles point when both their ranked doubles teams were victorious. On court No. 1 the No.7 duo of Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim defeated TCU's Nick Chappell and JT Sundling, 8-4. On court No. 2 the No. 44 team of Robert Schulze and Andre Stenger downed TCU's Will Stein and Paul Chappell, 9-7.
Nebraska kept its momentum going in singles play when they won three singles matches to clinch the victory.
On court No. 2 NU's No.78 Lindheim downed TCU's Sundling, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Nebraska's Stenger defeated TCU's Daniel Sanchez, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Stenger was at the No. 3 spot in the Huskers' lineup. On court No. 4 NU's Schulze was victorious in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, over the Horned Frogs Max Stevens.
The Huskers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 3, when they travel to Norman, Okla., to take on a former Big 12 foe in Oklahoma. Friday's match against the Sooners will begin at 6 p.m.
