Huskers Conclude Last Intrasquad, Look Towards 2012

 

Lincoln- The Nebraska women's gymnastics team held its second intrasquad meet of the year at the Devaney Center on Friday in preparation for the 2012 season. The Huskers were able to perform in front of a crowd for the last time before opening the season in just over a month. The Huskers posted a team score of 195.15.

“I thought it was a good night," Head Coach Dan Kendig said after the meet. "Our girls came out and had good energy and competed well. It was good to get in front of a crowd and perform."

NU performed routines on every event, competing in Olympic order. The team gained valuable experience performing at the Devaney Center, where they will hold all regular season meets this year. Kendig was encouraged by what he saw today and looks forward to the improvements the girls can make before taking a few days off for Christmas break.

"When they come back from Christmas break we have right up until our meet against Denver to really work hard," Kendig said. "We have a lot to improve on, but I think our girls are up to the challenge. They’re going to continue to work hard."

The Huskers open their season on Jan. 13 at the Devaney Center against Denver at 7 p.m. The Huskers return six All-Americans for last year’s squad that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, which was tied for the highest finish in school history.
