Lincoln -- The Nebraska
women's gymnastics team continues preparations for the 2012 season with an
intrasquad meet on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. The intrasquad will be held at the
Bob Devaney Sports Center and is open free of charge to the public.
The Huskers will perform routines on every event,
beginning in Olympic order with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor
exercise. The event will also be in conjunction with the men’s intrasquad meet
as they will be performing on the floor and pommel horse.
The Huskers return six gymnasts who have earned All-America honors in their
careers to this year’s squad, including Lora Evenstad, Janelle Giblin, Kassandra Nathe,
Brittany Skinner, Jamie Schleppenbach and Emily Wong. The Huskers finished last season fourth at the NCAA
Championships, which tied for their highest finish in school history.
Nebraska, which debuted at No. 6 in the preseason rankings, opens the 2012
season on Jan. 13 against Denver at the Devaney Center at 7 p.m. A year after
winning their 20th conference championship, the Huskers will look to make their
29th consecutive postseason appearance in their first season as a
member of the Big Ten Conference. Schedule posters featuring the entire 2012
women’s gymnastics team will be available at Friday’s competition.
