Lincoln-- The Nebraska women's gymnastics team continues preparations for the 2012 season with an intrasquad meet on Friday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. The intrasquad will be held at Mabel Lee Hall and is open and free of charge to the public.
The Huskers will also host another intrasquad on Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. They will perform routines on every event in Olympic order, beginning with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Nebraska returns seven letterwinnners from last year's squad that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, which was tied for its best finish in school history. The 2012 Huskers will feature six gymnastics that have earned All-America honors during their career, including Lora Evenstad, Janelle Giblin, Kassandra Nathe, Jamie Schleppenbach, Brittany Skinner and Emily Wong. Nebraska will also welcome four true freshman to the squad, including Rogers, Minn., native Jessie DeZiel, who helped the US capture the gold medal at the Pan American games in October.
Nebraska opens the 2012 season on Jan. 13 against Denver at the Devaney Center at 7 p.m. NU will have five home events, including meets against Missouri (Jan. 28), Florida (March 4) and Iowa State (March 16). The Huskers will host the annual Masters Classic on Feb. 11, which features Michigan, Washington and Southern Utah.
