Huskers Take 12th at Firestone

Akron, Ohio - The Nebraska men's golf team finished 12th at the Firestone Invitational after shooting 292 in Tuesday's final round. The Huskers' 881 total after 54 holes marked a season best.

The Huskers, who were tied for ninth after two rounds, finished eight strokes out of the top-10 at Firestone Country Club's North Course. Scott Willman led the way for NU, finishing tied for 12th. The Firestone Invitational marks the third straight tournament that Willman has earned NU's best finish. The senior fired a 1-under-par 71 in the final round for a three-round total of 214. He finished nine shots off the pace.

Manuel Lavin tied for 22nd with a 54-hole total of 217. Lavin paced his way to a 72 on Tuesday after a 75 in the opening round and a 70 in the second round. The sophomore's tie for 22nd marked his best finish since the season-opening Fairway Club Invitational, where he earned runner-up honors.

Ross Dickson carded a final-round 76 en route to a 227 total. The freshman tied for 65th in his fourth tournament as a Husker. Dickson's first day scores were 78 in the first round and 73 in the second round.

Neil Dufford finished 76th after adding his best score of the tournament, a 1-over-par 73. Dufford recorded back-to-back 78s on Monday en route to a 229 total after three rounds.

Kevin Gillick took 235 strokes for the tournament and finished 87th. Gillick posted an 85 in Tuesday's final round to follow up Monday's 77 and 73. The junior was competing in his third tournament as a Husker and his second as a member of the lineup.

Indiana and St. Mary's tied to win the team competition at 854 strokes. Mac McClung of St. Mary's earned a four-stroke victory over Chase Wright of Indiana in the individual competition.

The Huskers finish their fall season in the next time out at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Oct. 24-25. The tournament will be held at NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
