Normal, Ill. - The Nebraska men's golf team will compete in its third tournament of the fall season at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday.
This weekend's field includes Big Ten foes Illinois and Wisconsin, along with 12 other teams. The Weibring Golf Club, located in Illinois State's campus, will play host to the event. Play will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Saturday's first round will start with a shotgun at 8:15 a.m., with the second round immediately following. Sunday's final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The Huskers are looking to improve upon their 12th-place finish at the Kansas Invitational 10 days ago. NU posted 919 strokes over three rounds and was led by Scott Willman, who tied for 15th. In their previous start, the Huskers were victorious at the Fairway Club Invitational, amassing 894 strokes over 54 holes. Manuel Lavin led the team with a second-place finish.
Willman will make the start as the No. 1 player in the lineup for the Huskers this weekend. The senior's stroke average through two tournaments is 74.17, which includes a tie for 15th and a tie for 10th. Willman's low round on the season is a 5-under-par 67, which he fired in the second round of the Fairway Club Invitational.
Junior Neil Dufford will be making his 11th consecutive start in the lineup for the Huskers after missing last year's D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. Dufford, whose stroke average is 75.33, tied for 44th at the Kansas Invitational after tying for seventh at the Fairway Club Invitational. Dufford will represent the No. 2 position in the Husker lineup.
Freshman Ross Dickson earned his third straight start to begin his Nebraska career and will play as the No. 3 for the Huskers. Dickson, a London, England native, tied for 56th in Kansas and tied for 55th in Nebraska City. His stroke average through six rounds is 79.67.
Kevin Gillick will make his first start in the Husker lineup since joining the team, representing the No. 4 spot. Gillick, a transfer from the University of Denver, tied for 52nd as an individual for the Huskers at the Kansas Invitational. His stroke average is 78.00.
Lavin earned his third start of the 2011-12 campaign and will represent the No. 5 spot for the Huskers. The sophomore's stroke average through two tournaments is 74.33. Lavin, whose low round is 70, tied for 44th at the Kansas Invitational and finished second at the Fairway Club Invitational.
