Huskers Finish 12th at Kansas Invitational

Lawrence, Kan. - The Nebraska men's golf team shot 308 in Tuesday's final round at the Kansas Invitational, finishing 12th at Alvamar Golf Club. The Huskers compiled 919 strokes in the 54-hole tournament.

The Huskers, who posted 309 and 302 on the first day, finished seven shots behind 11th place, which belonged to Drake. Taking home the team title was UMKC, who shot 874 over three rounds at the par-72, 7,092-yard layout.

Leading the Huskers was senior Scott Willman, who tied for 15th. Willman fired a 2-over-par 74, the lowest Husker score for the day, en route to a three-round total of 222. His tie for 15th marks his second consecutive top-15 result, along with his tie for 10th at the Fairway Club Invitational.

Tying for 44th was Manuel Lavin and Neil Dufford. The duo of Huskers matched 78s in the final round, adding to their 231 total. Lavin, a sophomore, produced 78 and 75 on the first day, while Dufford carded 80 and 73.

Ross Dickson also posted 78 on Tuesday, tying for 56th. The freshman's total for three rounds was 235, which was an eight-stroke improvement from his first start at the Fairway Club Invitational. Dickson shot 78 and 79 in the first two rounds.

Austin Zimmerman finished 69th after carding an 86 on Tuesday. The senior from Lincoln, Neb., produced 80 and 82 on Monday to put his 54-hole total at 248. Playing as an individual for the Huskers was Kevin Gillick, who tied for 52nd. Gillick used a 4-over-par 76 in the final round to finish at 234 in his first tournament as a Husker.

A trio of players tied for first at the Kansas Invitational as Daily Young (Missouri State), Chris Weninger (Louisiana-Lafayette) and David Smith (South Dakota State) shot 214 for the tournament.

The Huskers return to the course Oct. 1-2 at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill.
