Lawrence, Kan. – The Nebraska men’s golf team tees it up at the Kansas Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Alvamar Golf Club coming off a victory at the Fairway Club Invitational.
The Huskers will compete with 11 other teams at Alvamar Golf Club, a par-72, 7,092-yard configuration. Monday’s first round will begin with tee times at 8 a.m. (Central Time), with the second round immediately following. The final round will be contested on Tuesday.
Sophomore Manuel Lavin will make his first start as the No. 1 player in NU’s lineup this week, coming off a runner-up finish at the Fairway Club Invitational. Lavin, a Mexico native, put together rounds of 73, 70 and 72 to finish two strokes behind the medalist at ArborLinks.
Neil Dufford will represent the Huskers’ No. 2 player at the Kansas Invitational. The junior is fresh off his career-best finish, a tie for seventh, in the season-opening event. Dufford totaled 221 strokes for the tournament.
Representing the No. 3 spot for the Huskers is senior Scott Willman. The Kansas native tied for 10th last week, firing a 5-under-par 67 in the second round. Last year Willman tied for eighth at Alvamar Golf Club, helping lead the team to a second place result.
Fellow senior Austin Zimmerman will play as the No. 4 after a tie for 39th at the Fairway Club Invitational. Newcomer to the team Ross Dickson will make his second start as a Husker, playing as the No. 5. The England native tied for 55th at last week’s tournament.
Junior transfer Kevin Gillick will play as an individual for the Huskers. Gillick, who played high school golf for Lincoln Pius X, came from the University of Denver during the offseason.
