Nebraska City, Neb. - The Nebraska men's golf team opens its 2011-12 campaign by hosting the Fairway Club Invitational at ArborLinks Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
ArborLinks Golf Course, a par-72, 7,158-yard layout, will play host to 12 teams. Intrastate schools Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton will battle the Huskers along with Drake, Missouri State, Oral Roberts, South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Loyola-Chicago.
Scott Willman will represent the No. 1 position in the lineup for the Huskers. The senior, who started every tournament for Nebraska last year, averaged 74.64 strokes per round, which was good for second on the team.
Neil Dufford, who competed in 10 out of 12 tournaments in 2010-11, will be the No. 2 player in the NU lineup. The junior from Midland, Texas earned a 75.57 stroke average last season.
A pair of young international players will represent the Nos. 3 and 4 spots for the Huskers as sophomore Manuel Lavin and freshman Ross Dickson earned lineup positions. Lavin, an Aguascalientes, Mexico native, is making his third overall appearance for the Huskers, but his first in the five-man lineup. Dickson, a London, England product, is making his first start in the Nebraska uniform.
Senior Austin Zimmerman earned the No. 5 spot in the lineup for the Fairway Club Invitational. Zimmerman competed in three tournaments for the Huskers in 2010-11 and looks to provide senior leadership alongside Willman in 2011-12.
The Reinertson brothers, Jordan and Josh, will play as individuals for Nebraska. Jordan, a junior, competed in three tournaments last season. Josh, a redshirt freshman, will be making his first appearance as a Husker.
Monday's 36 holes starts with a shotgun at 8:30 a.m., with Tuesday's final 18 holes also teeing off with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun. Results will be available on Huskers.com.
