Norman, Okla.--- The Nebraska men's tennis team concluded its' 2010 fall season by sending two players to the third round of the singles bracket and one doubles team to the semifinals at the UTSA/ITA Central Region Championships in Norman, Okla. The Huskers, who had five players competing in the tournament, won a total of eight singles and doubles matches.
Benedikt Lindheim (NU) ended his stellar fall season by reaching the third round in singles play. Lindheim defeated Alastair Barnes (Tulsa) and Austen Kauss (Iowa) in the first two rounds, but couldn't overcome No. 33 Ionut Beleleu (OU) in the third round falling by the score of 6-0, 6-1. The junior won a team-high 12 matches during the fall season.
The other Husker to advance to the third round of play was senior Calin Paar (NU). The No. 49-ranked player in the country defeated Rusty Turpin (Tulsa) in the first round before taking down Big 12-foe Jacob Strauss (OU) in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to set up a match with his second straight opponent from Oklahoma in Peerakit Siributwong (OU) in the third round. Paar was unable to upend Siributwong falling in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
No. 61 Christopher Aumueller (NU), Eric Sock (NU) and Andre Stenger (NU) all fell in their first round matches. Sock was playing in the main draw after winning two matches in the pre-qualifying bracket earlier this week.
In doubles, Aumueller and Lindheim advanced to the semifinals after taking down Hamish Weerasinghe and Eric Nguyen (Bradley), and Jacob Strauss and Ryan Proctor (Oklahoma) in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, the team took down Marcelo Arevalo and Ashley Watling (Tulsa), 9-8 (5), in one of the best doubles matches of the day. John Warden and Lawrence Formentera (OU) brought the duos run to an end in the semifinals winning by an 8-5 score.
The other Husker doubles team to collect a victory was Taylor Boney (NU) and Brandon Videtich (NU). The duo took down Patrick Kella and Drew Feder (SLU) in the first round, but was not able to get by their second round opponent.
