Lincoln- The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team held its annual postseason banquet with the men’s gymnastics team on Friday, April 30. The banquet included season recaps from the respective coaches as well as highlight videos from the 2010 season.
In addition, gymnasts were recognized by the Nebraska coaching staff for their accomplishments throughout the season. Senior Kylie Stone received the Hawkinson Award, representing the most valuable student-athlete in the gym, classroom and community.
After returning for her senior campaign and leading the Huskers before seeing her final season cut short due to injury, Stoneearned the Perseverance Award. Junior Maddie Steinauer was recognized as the 2010 Newcomer of the Year and sophomore Brittnee Habbib was named the Most Improved Gymnast in her third season. Junior Maria Scaffidi was voted Most Valuable to the Team by her fellow teammates.
Head Coach Dan Kendig, Associate Head Coach Danna Durante and Assistant Coach Tim Garrison selected individuals as outstanding event specialists for their respective events. Sophomore Erin Davis earned the award on vault, Scaffidi tallied the honor on bars, senior Kathryn Howard received accolades on beam and sophomore Lora Evenstad garnered the award on floor.
The Huskers lose seniors Stone and Howard in 2011, but return Davis, Evenstad, Habbib, Scaffidi, Steinauer and a slew of experienced and talented gymnasts.
