Lincoln - Cody Asche and Tyler Farst drove in three runs apiece, as Nebraska completed a three-game sweep of Southeast Missouri State with a 10-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field.
Asche continued his torrid weekend with a three-run double in the third inning to break open a 1-0 contest, as he totaled 11 RBI in the three-game series to propel Nebraska (23-24) to its fourth straight victory. Farst put the game out of reach two innings later, belting a three-run homer to left, providing the Huskers with a six-run cushion.
Nebraska pounded out 15 hits, including three-hit days from Adam Bailey and Kale Kiser, as Bailey went 3-for-4 and score three times. The Huskers also received solid pitching, as five relievers combined to allow one earned run over 6.2 innings, including 2.2 innings of two-hit ball by Chase Adams, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
"It feels good to win and feels good to have the kids have an understanding how to do some things," Anderson said. "I thought we made some adjustments from a swing standpoint and ended up getting some results in terms of runs and wins. I thought we swung well, but situationally we could do a little bit better. Our pitching today was very good, and I thought Chase Adams did a good job for us."
The Huskers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first on DJ Belfonte's seventh homer of the season. The senior sent a 3-1 offering from SEMO starter Jordan Underwood into a 25 mile-per-hour wind, as the ball just cleared the fence in right.
The Redhawks (27-20) had their best opportunity in the third, loading the bases with one out against Husker right-hander Tyler Niederklein, but Adams came out of the bullpen and got NU out of the jam, getting Casey Jones to pop out before striking out Louie Haseltine to end the threat.
The Huskers extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom half of the inning, as Asche came through with a two-out double off of Jordan Underwood (4-5), who allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings. Bryan Peters opened the third with a double before Chad Christensen walked to put two one with one no outs. Two batters later, Bailey's single loaded the bases before Asche cleared the bases with a double to left, as Nebraska drove in all 10 of its runs in two-out situations.
Casey Jones got Southeast Missouri on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with an RBI double to make it 4-1, but Nebraska responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, as Farst blasted his fourth homer of the season on to the berm in left.
Nebraska extended the margin to 10-1 in the sixth, getting a two-out two-run single by Kale Kiser before a Redhawk error plated NU's final run. NU loaded the bases with two outs before Kiser's chopper into center pushed across a pair of runs. Asche then hit a liner that was dropped by Michael Adamson, allowing the Huskers' final run to cross the plate.
Jones led SEMO with two RBI, while Kenton Parmley went 3-for-4 in the losing effort.
The Huskers will return to action this weekend, as they travel to Missouri beginning Friday night. The schedule for this weekend is now set for 7 p.m. (Friday and Saturday) and Noon (Sunday) because of the Big 12 Track and Field Championships in Columbia, Mo.
