Huskers to Meet Marquette, Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Lincoln - After road trips to Georgia, Arizona and Virginia, the Husker soccer team leaves Nebraska for its last out-of-state matches of the 2010 spring season this weekend. The Huskers will head north for Sunday contests against Marquette (11 a.m.) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1 p.m.) at Milwaukee's Valley Fields.

Nebraska is coming off a successful weekend March 28 in Virginia, where the Huskers took on the ACC's Cavaliers twice, tying the first game (2-2) and winning the second (1-0). This weekend will provide another valuable opportunity for head coach John Walker's squad to improve and prepare for the 2010 season, as both Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee were 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers.

The Golden Eagles finished last season with a 15-5-3 record and were ranked in the top 25 until being ousted from the NCAA Tournament following a first round loss to No. 23 Dayton. Marquette met a pair of Big 12 opponents two weeks ago in spring action, defeating Baylor (1-0) and tying Texas A&M (2-2).

The Panthers had a 12-6-3 mark in 2009 and were also eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after a 3-0 loss to No. 13 Central Florida. Wisconsin-Milwaukee swept the Horizon League regular season and tournament titles behind the offensive firepower of sophomore forward Sarah Hagen, who finished 2009 ranked No. 3 in the NCAA with 24 goals (Nebraska freshman Morgan Marlborough was fifth with 21).

Following this weekend, Nebraska will return to Lincoln for its only home match of the spring season next Saturday, April 17 when the Huskers host Minnesota at 9:30 a.m. The match will be part of the Husker Nation Pavilion festivities at the Nebraska Soccer Field, as the NU football team plays its annual Red-White Spring Game inside Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
