Huskers Finish Sixth at NCAA Championships

Fort Worth, Texas - The Nebraska rifle team finished in sixth place at the NCAA Rifle Championships Saturday at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum with a 4,619 team score. Janine Dutton led NU to the top-six finish with a sixth-place performance in air rifle.

The Huskers, who were in fifth place after the smallbore competition on Friday with a 2,295, scored a 2,324 in air rifle to finish the event in seventh. Dutton led NU with a 590, and then finished sixth in the air rifle finals. Dutton also led the Huskers on day one with a 578 in smallbore, which tied her for 13th.

Christine Costello earned a 574 in smallbore, good for a tie for 21st. Ryann McGough and Amanda Jeffries shot 572 and 571, respectively, as the Big Red scored its highest smallbore total since October.

On Saturday, McGough and Joyce Kim shot 581 in air rifle, while Jeffries scored 572.

TCU took advantage of playing in their home facilities, winning the national championship trophy with a 4,675 total. Alaska-Fairbanks finished second (4,653) and defending champion, West Virginia, finished third (4,641).

TCU's Sarah Scherer won the smallbore title and Columbus State's Jonathan Hall won the air rifle title competing as an individual.
