Huskers Take Down Michigan State

East Lansing, Mich.--- The No. 65 Nebraska men's tennis team defeated the Michigan State Spartans, 6-1, on Friday, Feb. 19, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Huskers victory over the Spartans broke the Huskers three-match losing streak and improved their record to 4-3 on the season. The Spartans dropped to 6-3.

NU started the match strong in doubles where the top two teams defeated their opponents to capture the doubles point. A week after defeating the No. 3-ranked doubles duo in the country against Wisconsin, David Bendheim and Calin Paar (NU) continued their success by defeating John Stratton and Austin Brooks (MSU) 9-7 at the No. 1 position. The duo is now 2-0 on the season and was just recently ranked as the No. 35-rated doubles team in the nation by the ITA Tennis Association.  At the No. 2 spot, Christopher Aumueller and Andre Stenger also picked up their second win together after taking down Jason Norville and Joe Vallee (MSU) 8-5.

NU continued their dominance in singles play where the top five players won their matches. No. 53 Aumueller defeated Ronnie Hulewicz (MSU) 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot, while Bendheim beat Denis Bogatov (MSU) 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot. Paar, Francois Van Impe (NU), and Benedikt Lindheim (NU) all won their singles matches to help NU cruise to the victory. Head coach Kerry McDermott was pleased with how his team came out and played after losing three straight matches.

"It's good to get back on the winning track," McDermott said. "I thought we played a more complete match. We competed well in doubles and I think that carried over into singles. Calin (Paar), Christopher (Aumueller) and Benedikt (Lindheim), I thought they all played extremely well in singles."

The Huskers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20, when they take on the Western Michigan Broncos in Kalamazoo, Mich. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
