Huskers Look for 10-0 Start for Third Straight Season
After starting both 2008 and 2009 with 10-0 dual records, the Nebraska women's tennis team has a chance to earn a 10-0 start for the third consecutive season as they host a pair of duals at the Nebraska Tennis Center on Saturday. The Huskers play Eastern Michigan at 10 a.m. and then play Northern Iowa later in the day at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday will mark the second consecutive week that the Huskers have had to play two matches in one day, as they played both Air Force and Drake last Saturday, Feb. 13. Nebraska swept both the Falcons and the Bulldogs to improve their record to 8-0.
Head Coach Scott Jacobson also earned his 250th career victory last weekend with the win against Air Force. Jacobson, who is in his 19th season as head coach of the women's tennis program, currently has a career record of 251-164. He is the longest-serving and winningest coach in Nebraska women's tennis history.
The Huskers continue their 14-match homestand to start the year next weekend as they take on Colorado State on Friday, Feb. 26, and nationally-ranked Tulsa on Sunday, Feb. 28.
Net Notes
- Two Huskers currently have an undefeated singles record this spring - sophomores Jennifer Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt are both 8-0.
- Nebraska has started the previous two seasons with at least 10 consecutive wins.
- The Huskers have won in every score combination possible. They have two wins a piece in each score combination, and in a strange coincidence has won each pair in consecutive matches.
