Jacobson Seeks 250th Career Victory
The Nebraska women's tennis team hopes to give its head coach his 250th victory this weekend, as Scott Jacobson is currently sitting on 249 career wins as the Huskers take on both Air Force and Drake in a doubleheader this Saturday. The Huskers, who have won six straight to open the season, will be looking to maintain its undefeated record as well as give Jacobson his milestone victory.

Nebraska starts off with a match against Air Force on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Falcons are on a hot streak, having won seven straight matches after losing their first match of the year. The Huskers then play Drake later in the day at 3 p.m. This weekend marks the first of two times this year that Nebraska will play two matches in one day - it will do the same a week from Saturday, on Jan. 20, against Northern Iowa and Eastern Michigan.

The Huskers had a pair of 5-2 wins last weekend over Arkansas-Little Rock and Wyoming, improving their record to 6-0 on the season. Nebraska is looking to match the excellent start it has had the previous two seasons, when it started each year with 10 straight victories. This weekend's matches are part of a 14-match homestand to start the season for the Huskers.

Net Notes

  • Two Huskers currently have an undefeated singles record this spring - sophomores Jennifer Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt are both 6-0.
  • Nebraska has started the previous two seasons with at least 10 consecutive wins.
  • Jacobson earned his 249th career victory last weekend over Wyoming - he earned his 200th career victory over the Cowgirls in 2007.

Review: Huskers Upend Cowgirls
The Nebraska women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Wyoming on Sunday morning at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Head Coach Scott Jacobson earned his 249th career victory as the Huskers remained perfect on the year.

The doubles matches were all close and competitive, but the Huskers rallied to take two of the three and win the doubles point. NU's Jennifer Holmberg and Wiveca Swarting broke a 5-5 tie at the No. 2 spot, winning the next three games to take the match 8-5. Wyoming evened things up shortly after with a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was tied at 7-7, but Nebraska's Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein won the final two games and took the match 9-7, giving the Huskers a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Huskers put the match away early in singles play, as Geibert, Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt earned straight-set victories within minutes of each other to give Nebraska 4 team points, clinching the team victory. Wyoming, however, was up a set in the remaining three matches, and went on to win two of those three matches, making up the final score of 5-2.
