Wildcats Trip Up Huskers in Home Finale

Janine Dutton fired a career-best 592 in air rifle and Christine Costello captured the smallbore title, but it wasn't enough as the Nebraska rifle team dropped Saturday's match at the NU Rifle Range against the Kentucky Wildcats, 4,616-4,604.

Dutton, who was battling an illness, earned the air rifle title for her effort and shared the top combined score with UK's Ashley Jackson. Unfortunately, Dutton's score did not count toward the Huskers' team score because she was not a member of the four-person lineup.

Among those who did count, Ryann McGough led the way with a 1,157 combined score. Costello's 579 in smallbore and McGough's 577 paved the way as the Huskers outshot the Wildcats, 2,292-2,281 in smallbore.

In air rifle, the Wildcats rolled to a 2,335-2,312 advantage. Amanda Jeffries led all scorers in the lineup for NU with a 583, while McGough added a 580. Katie Kostal shot 581 as an individual.

Nebraska now turns its attention to the NCAA Qualifiers, which take place Feb. 13-14 in Morgantown, W. Va.
