Huskers Begin Play at ITA Central Regional Championships

Tulsa, Okla.---The Nebraska men's tennis team kicked off the final event of its fall season on Thursday at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Huskers had three players in action on Thursday in the qualifying singles bracket.

The only Husker to advance past the first round of the qualifying bracket was freshman Erik Sock (Neb.). Sock defeated Dave Welkener (SLU) 6-1, 6-2, in the first round, but eventually fell to Matheus Pereira (WSU) in a the third set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-1,10-6, in the second round.

Sophomore Drew Freeman (Neb.) was defeated by Taylor King (Ark.) in the first round, but was able to collect a victory in the back draw by taking down Pavlo Buriy (SIU) 6-4, 6-1. Jamie Trenite (Neb.) fell to Bruno Hurtado (APB) 6-4, 3-6, 12-10, in the first round.

The Main Draw begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles from the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Five Huskers will begin play tomorrow in the main draw including David Bendheim, Christopher Aumueller, Calin Paar, Benedikt Lindheim and Francois Van Impe
