Huskers Open Season With Pair of Home Matches

The Nebraska rifle team gets its 2009-10 season underway this weekend with a pair of home matches. The Huskers will take on Air Force on Friday at 8 a.m., and then face defending national champion West Virginia on Sunday. Both matches will take place at the NU Rifle Range, located in the basement of the Military and Naval Science Building.

The Huskers return all six competitors from last year's team and add two freshmen to the squad this season in Janine Dutton and Joyce Kim.

"We have been having some strong practices and it will be nice to finally see how the team does when all the scores are put together when it counts," Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. "I am curious to see how the freshman fair on their first match. It will be good for them to finally get the jitters out and then they will be ready for our match against West Virginia on Sunday."

Sunday's match against West Virginia will be NU's Breast Cancer Awareness match. Hicks feels confident her team will have a good showing this weekend.

"I feel we will be able to hold our own and still put up some strong scores, no matter who we are competing against," Hicks said. "It is early in the season, we need to work out the kinks and just take it one match at a time."
