Aumueller, Lindheim Earn Third Place Finishes at Virginia Fall Classic

Charlottesville, Va.--- The Nebraska men's tennis team concluded play on Sunday, Sept., 13, at the Virginia Fall Classic with two players earning third place finishes in singles competition.  Sophomores Christopher Aumueller (Neb.) and Benedikt Lindheim (Neb.) both won on Sunday to secure a third place finish in their respective brackets. The Huskers got another third place finish from freshmen Eric Sock (Neb.) and Jamie Trenite (Neb.) in doubles play.

Aumueller, who was competing in the top singles bracket, defeated Grega Teraz (ETSU) on Saturday, but fell to No. 84 Drew Courtney (UVA) 2-6, 7-5, 6-0, in the third round to fall into the third place match against Jesus Bandres (ETSU).  Aumueller handled Bandres (ETSU) in straight sets 6-2, 7-6, to earn the third place finish.

In the B-singles bracket, the third place match would take place between a pair of Huskers as Lindheim and Trenite would face each other. Lindheim cruised through the first two rounds of play, but was upended by Santiago Villegas (UVA) 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, in the third round to send him to the third place match.  Trenite won the second match of his Husker career by defeating Chase Helpingstine (Elon) 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, in the second round, but suffered his first collegiate defeat in the third round to Jason Morgenstern (Wake) to set up the match between the two teammates. Lindheim's experience proved to be too much for Trenite as he took the match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, to secure third place.

Although Trenite was unable to win his third place match in singles, he and fellow freshman Eric Sock teamed up together for a third place finish in the B2 doubles bracket defeating Yan Levinski and Chris Kushma (GW) 8-6 in the third place match.  The duo went 2-1 on the weekend in their first doubles action together.

Overall, the Huskers recorded 15-13 singles record throughout the weekend. The Nebraska men's tennis team will return to action on Sept. 25 when they travel back to Charlottesville, Va., to play in the Virginia Ranked Plus 1 Tournament.  A full list of results from the Virginia Fall Classic is listed below.
