Belgrade, Serbia ? The Nebraska track and field team was well represented on Friday night at the 25th running of the World University Games. Junior Lehann Fourie and sophomore Megan Wheatley were each competing for their home countries.
Out of 25 competitors in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Fourie flew to the second-fastest qualifying time in the preliminaries. The Pretoria, South Africa, native ran 13.78 and will now run in the semifinals and finals tonight.
After the first day of the women’s heptathlon, Perth, Australia, native Megan Wheatley sits in ninth place with 3,372 points. Wheatley’s top event on day one was the shot put, where she finished third with a toss of 42-10 1/4. With the 200 meters, 100 hurdles, high jump and shot put down, Wheatley will now look to move up in the standing with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters to go.
