Wrestling Recruiting Class Ranked No. 3

Lincoln ?Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN) recently announced the University of Nebraska’s incoming class is ranked third in the nation, according to the publications 2008-09 recruiting class rankings. Minnesota took top honors, while Oklahoma State was second. Oklahoma and Virginia Tech rounded out the top five.

 

All six wrestlers that signed a National Letter of Intent with the Huskers last fall won state titles this winter. Liberty High’s David Klingsheim took home his second consecutive championship to become the 18th wrestler to ever place in four state meets in California. Just as impressive was Kyle Waldo of Rockford (Mich.) High. He won his fourth consecutive state title to become the 14th four-time state champion in Michigan high school history. Both are projected to wrestle at 125 pounds for the Huskers.

 

C.J. Napier, Cody Compton and Michael Klinginsmith all earned their third state titles during their prep careers. Wrestling for Columbus (Kan.) High, Napier was named the NHSCA Senior Nationals Outstanding Wrestler, while Compton, the brother of NU linebacker Will Compton, also won his weight class at Virginia Beach after winning a state title for North County High School in Bonne Terre, Mo. Klinginsmith went undefeated his final three years of high school, posting 128 wins for Kearney Catholic High.

 

Caleb Kolb, wrestling in what is considered one of the toughest prep states in the nation, went 39-0 to earn a title for Grove City High in Grove City, Pa.
