Huskers Take on Missouri State

Lincoln ? The Nebraska volleyball team continues their spring season this afternoon, as they take on the Missouri State Bears at the NU Coliseum, beginning at 5 p.m.

Tickets for today’s match can be purchased at the NU Coliseum when the gates open 4 p.m. All seating is General Admission with prices set at $10 (adults) and $8 (youth and seniors). In addition, all UNL students with a valid N-Card will be admitted free.

Missouri State went 23-13 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title. The Bears fell to UAB in the opening round of the NCAAs at the NU Coliseum last December.

The Huskers are 1-0 on the spring after a 3-1 victory at Hawaii on March 19. In that match, freshman Hannah Werth totaled a match-high 15 kills as Nebraska posted a 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23 victory over a Rainbow Wahine team that advanced to the Elite Eight last season.

Werth was one of three Huskers to finish in double figures kills, as Tara Mueller totaled 13 kills and 11 digs, while Brooke Delano had 11 kills and four blocks. Sydney Anderson dished out 44 assists and had four kills, seven digs and four blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs.

Today’s match will be the first home match for a quartet of Huskers, including Werth and fellow freshman Megan Pendergast, who both enrolled in January. Both players were Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selections and part of a Husker recruiting class that is among the nation’s best. In addition, Saturday’s match is the home debut for redshirt freshman Allison McNeal, who had nine kills on 12 swings at Hawaii, and Jessica Yanz, who had to sit out the 2008 season after transferring from Penn State. In addition, tonight’s match could mark the debut of redshirt freshman Kaitlynn James, who missed all of last season following shoulder surgery.

The Huskers will wrap up the indoor portion of the spring season next Saturday, April 11, as they travel to Scottsbluff, Neb., to take on Wichita State at 2 p.m. (central). Over 2,400 tickets for that match were sold in a day for that match at Western Nebraska Community College.
