Game 11: Nebraska (6-3-1)  vs. Cal State Northridge (5-4)   


The Huskers continue the five-game homestand this afternoon, as they host the Cal State Northridge Matadors for a four-game weekend series

3:29 p.m.
the Huskers go out for the ninth, and Nesseth makes the bid for his first career complete game.

3:25 p.m.
Nesseth works through the eight, fanning two to up his total to six. Nebraska leads 9-3 in the bottom of the eighth

3:05 p.m.
Nebraska makes it 9-3 with an RBI double from Adam Bailey, a run-scoring single from Tyler Farst and a perfectly executed safety squeeze from Mort. Justen Gorski is now in for the Matadors.

3:05 p.m.

Cory Burleson makes it a 6-3 Husker lead with a single to right off of Mendez before DJ Belfonte's single and error on Jeff Pruitt puts  runners at second and third for Kyle Bubak. Bryce Schoening is the third hurler of the inning for Cal State Northridge. Schoening fans Bubak to end the sixth.

2:46 p.m.
Welcome back Jake Mort, as he makes a pinch hit appearance, his first action since Feb. 21, and lays down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Nick Sullivan into scoring postion. Peter Mendez now pitching for Cal State Northridge.

2:36 p.m.
Nesseth gets through the sixth without much problem, working around a leadoff hit batter, as Nebraska leads 5-3

2:31 p.m.
Huskers go down in order in the top of the fifth and hold on to a 5-3 lead

2:23 p.m.
The Matadors get the first two runners on base, but Nesseth works around trouble including an inning-ending double play. Nebraska leads 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

2:18 p.m.
Nebraska gets a base runner on first , but Ryan McCarney shows a great pickoff move, getting DJ Belfonte at first for his second pickoff of the day

2:08 p.m.
Northridge got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on back-to-back round trippers by Ruan Pineda and Dominic D'Anna and pulls to within 5-3

1:53 p.m.
The Huskers get a one-out runner on Cody Asche's single, but can't push across another run and lead 5-0 after three innings.

1:51 p.m.
Northridge gets the lead runner on base on third before the Huskers erase the runner with 4-6-3 GDP and Nesseth fans Jeff Pruitt to end the frame.

1:44 p.m.
The Huskers erupt for five runs in the bottom of the second, sending 10 men to the plate, to take a 5-0 lead. RBI singles from Nick Sullivan and DJ Belfonte, a bases loaded walk to Jeff Tezak and a two-run single from Adam Bailey capped the outburst for the Big Red.

1:23 p.m.
Nessth puts the Matadors down in order in the top of the second. The moment of the inning was when Tyler Farst went into the dugout attempting to catch a foul ball and was held up the some alert Cal State Northridge players.

1:19 p.m.
Huskers go down in order in the bottom of the first and we are scoreless through one. It has been an interesting afternoon for HuskersVision student assistant/music operator Beth Hoole, she was glanced by a car leaving class on her way to the ballpark. She arrived in time to get the video intros on the board and is being a real trooper today.

It is a nice afternoon at the ballpark with temperatures at 51 degrees with very little wind (ENE 2-4 MPH). It is one of the rare days this spring where wind should not be an issue. As a reminder, today is a single-game with a doubleheader on Saturday.
