Crofford, Carrizales Named to All-Academic Team

Lincoln ? Sophomore Lara Crofford and junior Rachel Carrizales were recently named to the 2008 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Team.

 

In 2008, Crofford and Carrizales led the women’s cross country team to its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2003. The pair was each earned All-Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Region honors, with Crofford becoming only the second runner in the Big 12 era at Nebraska to earn All-Big 12 honors twice, joining teammate Ari Goldstein.

 

In the classroom, Carrizales carries a 3.777 GPA in elementary education, while also being named a First-Team Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar in 2008 and has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during six semesters. Crofford, a nutrition science and dietetics major, holds a 3.495 GPA and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the 2008 fall semester.

 

A total of 77 Division I female student-athletes received 2008 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic honors, representing 52 Division I institutions. The Big Ten Conference had the most conference student-athletes on the 2008 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic list with 13, followed by the Big East Conference and Southeastern Conference with eight student-athletes each, and the Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12 Conference, each with six conference student-athletes on the list.

 

The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 15 finishers (or top 10%) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet or attain All-American status at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
