 Game 7-8: St. Mary's (4-1) vs. Nebraska (4-1-1)  and  Nebraska at Sam Houston State (5-1)   

The Huskers will look to continue their early-season success with a pair of games today. NU is scheduled to play St. Mary's (Calif.) at 1:30 p.m. and take on Sam Houston State at 5 p.m.

The Huskers lose the shutout in the bottom of the eighth, but add a run in the ninth on Burleson's fourth hit of the night, an RBI single to score Tyler Rank to make it 9-1.

8:32 p.m.
The Huskers add an insurance run in the top of the eighth, as DJ Belfonte drive home Kyle Bubak to make it 7-0

8:16 p.m.
Adam Bailey gives up a leadoff single, but picks off the runner and retired the next two hitters in order to keep NU ahead 6-0.

8:11 p.m.
Nesseth's work is done after six innings, as Adam Bailey is now in on the mound. Nesseth fanned 12 and allowed three singles over six shutout innings of work.

7:50 p.m.
Nebraska threatens in the sixth, but could not push across a run. The score remains 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

7:45 p.m.
Nesseth is cruising through five innings, striking out the side to reach double figures in strikeouts. One of the more amusing things we are watching is the Huskers run down the foul line to stay warm. Not only is the team running between innings, but the Husker support staff is also running to keep warm in the chilly conditions.

7:38 p.m.
Nebraska leads 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth and we were joined by Ron Abeita, who has been impressed with the play of Cory Burleson, who is now 3-for-3 on the afternoon. Burleson has stepped into the role that Mitch Abeita so admirably filled last year. Mitch is with the Yankees organization and is Tampa for spring training

7:29 p.m.
Nesseth continues to roll along, matching his career high with seven strikeouts through four frames, as Nebraska is ahead 6-0. It is now 47 degrees with winds between 14-26 mph.  MBB Update: Huskers lead 20-16 with 9:00 left in the first half.

7:22 p.m.
Jacob Howard comes in and gets the Huskers out without allowing a run. Nebraska leads 6-0 after 3.5 innings and many of the scouts in attendance are looking for warmth in the press box and the restrooms during breaks in the action.

The temperature outside is dropping but Mike Nesseth continues to heat up in the second game of the double recording his sixth strike-out to get out of a little bit of a jam.  Nebraska still leads 6-0 through three innings.

The story from Game one is now posted. I just received word that fans in Lincoln can listen to tonight's game on 105.3 FM in Lincoln (WOW-FM) as well as on the Internet. Homers from Adam Bailey and Cody Asche - a three run shot - makes it 6-0 Huskers in the top of the third.

Mike Nesseth strikes out the side in the second, as the Huskers lead 2-0 through two frames. Nesseth has five strikeouts through the first two innings.

Nebraska draws first blood in the nightcap, getting an RBI single from Cory Burleson and a run-scoring double from Kyle Bubak to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second.

The Huskers add a pair to their lead, getting an RBI single from Jeff Tezak before a bases-loaded passed ball on SMC catcher Ryan Mulligan makes it 3-0. Belfonte's two doubles today already matches his personal best.

Bird continues to impress, working a perfect fifth inning as Nebraska clings to a 1-0 lead over the Gaels.

The Huskers had a golden opportunity in the bottom of the fourth, putting runners oon second and third with one out, but St. Mary's starter Scott Schneider worked out the jam

Erik Bird continues to pitch well, as the Huskers hold a 1-0 lead. Bird has already tied his career high with five strikeouts through the first four frames.

Jeff Tezak puts the Huskers up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly to left to score DJ Belfonte, who opened the third with a double to the right field corner and moved to third on Khiry Cooper's fly ball to right.

We are currently in a high wind advisory until 5 p.m. here at the ballpark. Erik Bird has scatted three hits over three innings, but has struck out four and not allowed a run. Huskers now up in the third with Belfonte leading off the inning with a double.

To explain the video stream, Sam Houston State (like like Louisiana Lafayette) is a JumpTV school, and we receive the feed from them to put on HuskersNside. We do the same thing for schools that come to Lincoln for baseball and other sports. On the road, that means we are at the mercy of those schools and sometimes the technology does not work or they are only able to send one video feed at a time. Somedays - like yestedays game against Missouri State or the earlier game between St. Mary's and Missouri State, there are no problems with the feed.

Ben Kline was hit by a pitch - the 12th time a Husker has been hit this year - but a fielder's choice and a fly out keeps the game scoreless through two innings.

Sorry for the delay; was answering e-mail from fans asking about Video. Bird allowed a one-out single then retired the next two hitters to escape unscathed. Nebraska now hitting in the bottom of the frame.

Jeff Tezak reaches on an error, but the Huskers could not capitalize on the miscue and we remain scoreless in the top of the second inning.

2:21 p.m - VIDEO UPDATE
There will be no video for today's first game, as Sam Houston State is streaming a homes women's basketball this afternoon. They tried to stream both events, but only one is getting sent to the server, and that priority goes to the SHSU women's basketball gane. They hope to join the game in progress at the conclusion for the women's basketball game - around 4 p.m. (central).

Erik Bird comes up big with two strikeouts to get out of a two-on, one out jam in the top of the first. Huskers coming to bat in the bottom of the first.

St. Mary's (Calif.) has now turned in their lineup for today's game. It is much colder than yesterday with the temperature is 59 degrees with winds blowing from the NNW at 18-29 miles per hour. Wind played a factor in the first game today and now it is blowing out straight to right field.

Nebraska's game will start sometime around 2 p.m. HuskerVision video producer Kelly Mosier remarked that the snack he purchased at the consession stand was nacho flavored cheese with a "gratuitious" amoumt of cheese. One housekeeping item, as one of the Sam Houston State ballgirls suffered a broken wrist when the foul ball went into the Missouri State dugout. The ball hit one ball girl in the wrist and then deflected off another ball girl in the face, leaving a shiner.

Good morning from Huntsville, Texas, where the Huskers will play a pair of games at the Sam Houston Baseball Classic this afternoon. Nebraska, which is 4-1-1 and has a two-game winning streak, takes on St. Mary's at 1:30 p.m., but chances of that game starting on time are very slim. Currently, Missouri State leads St. Mary's 10-3 in the top of the fifth in the first of four games today. The scheduled start times for the rest of the day are 1:30p.m.; 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
