Three Huskers Receive Degrees

Lincoln ? Saturday was a special day in the Nebraska volleyball program, as former Huskers Dani Busboom, Maggie Griffin and Sarah Pavan participated in graduation ceremonies Saturday morning at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The trio all played major roles in Nebraska enjoying one of the most successful runs in NCAA history, as the Huskers have won four straight Big 12 titles and reached the national semifinals on two occasions.

Busboom was a four-year starter at setter and libero, graduated with a degree in communication studies. The Cortland, Neb., native was the Big 12 Libero of the Year in 2006 ? her only year at the position. As a senior, she was one of the co-captains for a Husker team that went 33-1 and won the school’s third national title. She was a three-time academic All-Big 12 selection in her career.

Griffin, who graduated with a degree in finance, played a major role in the success in the Husker program in her three years at Nebraska. A two-time academic All-Big 12 selection, Griffin helped the Huskers to three Big 12 titles and two appearances in the national title match (2005 and 2006), splitting time at setter with Dani Busboom on the Huskers’ national runner-up squad.

Pavan, who received her degree in biochemistry and carried a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout her college career, completed one of the most decorated careers in Nebraska athletic history. A four-time first-team All-American, she was the AVCA National Player of the Year in 2006 and earned Big 12 Player-of-the-Year honors in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The 2007 Honda-Broderick Cup winner, Pavan was a three-time first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American, and was the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American of the Year for all sports at the Division I level during the 2006-07 academic year. She was selected as an NCAA Today’s Top Eight winner and was an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient.
