Maggie Griffin

Former Husker Maggie Griffin joined the Huskers as a volunteer coach prior to the 2011 season. Griffin will help with team training during practices, work with the Husker setters and assist with day-to-day administrative office duties.

Along with playing for the Huskers from 2006 to 2007 after transferring from Michigan State, Griffin has coached at Nebraska’s volleyball camps every summer since 2005.

She broke in at the club level in 2008 at the Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Aurora, Ill., where she coached the Under-14 Mizuno team. Griffin also coached a Under 14 girl’s team while playing in The Netherlands in 2008.

Since returning to Lincoln, Griffin has started her own club called vcNebraska (Volleyball Club Nebraska) that consists of four teams at the 13/14-age level and one 12-year old team.

Griffin graduated from Nebraska in 2008 with a degree in finance.

Playing Experience
After finishing her Husker career in 2007, Griffin was a setter for Caguas Criollas in Caguas, Puerto Rico in 2008. The next year she trained with VCKanti Schaffhausen in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, during the preseason before moving to Oldenzaal, The Netherlands, for the regular season. Playing for Heutink Pollux, Griffin’s team won the regular-season championship and took bronze in the playoffs.

As a freshman at Michigan State in 2004, Griffin averaged 12.98 assists and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. She totaled eight double-doubles and had 50-or-more assists in 12 matches, including 68 against Purdue. After transferring to Nebraska in 2005, Griffin led the team in assists with 869 in the Huskers’ 6-2 offense, while the team ranked fourth nationally in hitting percentage (.322) and kills per set (17.12). She backed up All-American Rachel Holloway in 2006 and 2007, helping the Huskers to their third national title in 2006. Griffin went on to train with the USA Volleyball program during the summer of 2006.

A St. Charles, Ill., native, Griffin was a Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 selection and was the No. 12 recruit in the country by Prepvolleyball.com out of Rosary High School. She played nine years with Sports Performance Volleyball Club and was named an AAU All-American in 2001 and 2004, as well as the AAU MVP in 2002. She helped lead her squad to back-to-back Junior Olympic Open Championships in 2003 and 2004, while being named Junior Olympic Most Valuable Player in 2003 and 2004.
