Lincoln- The No. 2 Nebraska bowling team will open its 2007-08 campaign this weekend at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Cheeseland Classic in Fort Atkinson, Wis.
The three-day tournament, held at Rock River Lanes, is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, and will conclude at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Twelve schools will make up the field for the tournament, including No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 3 Fairleigh Dickinson.
“We’re going to FortAtkinson this weekend and you wouldn’t think it is the hot spot in intercollegiate bowling,” Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said. “However, in this first tournament, we will be competing against some of the best teams in the country. We look forward to getting the young people some good playing time.”
The traveling team for the Cheeseland Classic includes senior Lindsay Baker, juniors Kaleena Henning and Cassandra Leuthold and freshmen Christine Bator, Esther Cheah and Katie Ann Sopp.
After the Cheeseland Classic, the Huskers will travel to Chicago, Ill., for the Maverick Challenge on Nov. 15-17, and will conclude their fall season at the Capital City Collegiate Classic in Oak Forest, Ill., on Dec. 1-2. The team will return to action on Jan. 18 at the Ozark Invitational in Springfield, Mo. Nebraska will play in six additional tournaments before the NCAA Championship tournament field is announced. Nebraska will host the NCAA Championship at Thunder Alley in Elkhorn, Neb., on April 10-12.
