West Point, N.Y. ? Sophomore Christine Costello and senior Kim Chrostowski tied for third place in the individual smallbore competition with scores of 576 to lead Nebraska to a second-place team finish at a triangular with Army and NC State on Sunday. The Huskers posted a final team total of 4,584, trailing Army (4,660) and ahead of the Wolfpack (4,505).
In addition to Costello and Chrostowski’s matching smallbore performances, sophomore Amanda Jeffries tied for fifth-place honors in smallbore (573) and contributed a team-best sixth-place showing in air rifle (584). Senior Kirsten Weiss added a score of 571 in smallbore to finish eighth, while freshman Elisha LaFond’s 579 in air rifle left her in ninth place.
In the team competition, Army topped both visiting teams in the two disciplines, outshooting the Huskers’ smallbore (2,272) and air rifle (2,312) marks.
“This weekend was a bit rough,” Head Coach Morgan Hicks said. “Something was off, and our scores were nowhere near where I expected them. We’re hopeful that the Thanksgiving break will allow the team to regroup and we’ll come out strong against Air Force next week.”
Nebraska prepares for its final match of the fall season, as the team next travels to Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 8 a.m.
