The No. 2 Nebraska bowling team will travel to <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Oak Forest, Ill., to compete in the Maverick Challenge tournament this weekend. The three-day tournament, hosted by MinnesotaState, is set to begin Thursday morning and will conclude Saturday afternoon.
Seven Huskers will be competing in the weekend’s events including senior Lindsay Baker, junior Kaleena Henning, sophomore Cassandra Leuthold and freshmen Christine Bator, Breanna Stewart and Esther Cheah.
Nebraska will compete against many of the nation’s top-ranked teams, including No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Central Missouri State and No. 10 Minnesota State.
“The competition is good and the new players had the opportunity last weekend to get excellent experience,” Head Coach Bill Straub said. “We’re certainly looking forward to going to the tournament.”
Last weekend the Huskers placed first in their season opener at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Cheeseland Classic at Whitewater, Wis. The Huskers were led by Leuthold, who placed first with a 210 average. Baker was named the tournament MVP with a second-place finish and a 205 average. Bator rounded out the all-tournament team with a 198 average and a fourth-place finish.
NU will have a two-week break before returning to action on Dec. 1 with the Capital City Collegiate Classic at Jackson, Miss.
