Wims Captures Bronze at Pan American Games

S?o Paolo, Brazil ? Husker sprinter Scott Wims brought home a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash from the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships on Saturday by finishing third with a time of 10.40.

 

Wims’ time tied his fastest in the event over the last two days, after posting an identical race of 10.40 to win his heat in the qualifier on Friday. Wims then clocked in at 10.43 to finish second in the semifinals later that day.

 

Fellow Husker sprinter Dax Danns joined Wims in the 100-meter finale on Saturday, finishing sixth with a time of 10.60. Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago, who won the semifinal round, also came through in the finals with a winning time of 10.32.

 

Following the 100-meter finale, Wims and Danns took on the semifinals in the 200-meter dash, where both Huskers again put up strong showings to qualify for the event finals. Wims turned in the second best time of the semifinals, clocking in at of 21.09, while Danns followed in the runner-up spot of the third heat with a time of 21.22. The top time coming out of the semifinals for the 200-meter dash was from Tyrell Cuffy of the Cayman Islands with a time of 20.84.

 

Wims and Danns will conclude their competition at the Pan Am Junior Championships with the 200-meter finals on Sunday morning, where they will run side-by-side in lanes six and seven, respectively.
