Lincoln ? A total of 17 Husker baseball players were honored Tuesday, earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the spring semester. The group was among the 255 University of Nebraska student-athletes who had at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring semester.
Juniors Mark Hightower and Jon Klausing highlighted the selections, as they both carried perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester. It is the fourth time that both student-athletes were lauded for their academic achievements. They were just two of 46 Husker student-athletes with 4.0 GPA during the spring.
A trio of Huskers - Bryce Nimmo, Nick Sullivan and Luke Wertz ? all earned their team-high sixth selection to the honor roll, as they have posted GPAs above 3.0 in each of their six semesters at Nebraska. Wertz and Nimmo were among the five Husker starters in NU’s NCAA Regional opener with GPAs over 3.0, joining designated hitter Jeff Tezak and outfielders DJ Belfonte and Andy Gerch.
The Huskers finished the 2007 season with a 32-27 record and reached the championship round of the NCAA Tempe Regional, the sixth time in the last eight years NU has advanced to a regional title game.
