Earned first-team all-state honors in three sports (baseball, football and track) during his prep career and was among the top players in the Midwest in both baseball and football ? Started all four seasons in high school, hitting 26 homers and stealing 55 bases for Ankeny High School ? Blessed with exceptional athletic ability, quick bat speed and a strong throwing arm suitable for either corner outfield position ? Garnered first-team all-state accolades as a senior, hitting .375 with two homers, 30 runs scored and eight stolen bases ? Enjoyed an exceptional junior season, hitting .392 with 12 homers, 31 RBIs, 67 runs scored and 23 stolen bases in leading Ankeny to a 39-7 record and a state Class 4A runner-up finish ? Showed exceptional athletic ability, earning first-team all-state honors in three sports (baseball, football and track) during his high school career ? Selected to the Des Moines Register Elite all-star team as a defensive back as he was rated the No. 95 safety in the country by ESPN.com ?
